Testing
Elementary students are not required to be tested each year, but it is recommended that your child be tested on a regular interval to help you ensure that your student is progressing and on grade grade level in all subjects.
High School students will be required to have annual testing. This is the only way for CLA to ensure that students are progressing academically toward graduation. You will be emailed more information about testing dates as they are set up. A copy of your student's test scores must be included in their school file for each year.
College entrance requirements:
The entrance requirements for college admission vary by college, and in most cases exceed the requirements that the state has for graduation (as listed above). You should research each college you are considering for your child, and design their high school curriculum based on the most demanding of these requirements to allow them all opportunities possible. These decisions are entirely yours to make as a parent. The only requirements CLA will have are those required by the state for graduation (as listed above). Call any college you may be interested in and ask for their admissions department to get entrance requirements. They will be happy to help you. Additionally, many local community colleges are good resources for information on college entrance requirements for not only their school, but for many schools to which you may wish to transfer.
If you will use a community college after high school for your first years of college, make sure you plan your coursework there properly. Many community colleges have an office called a Transfer Center that will tell you which courses from their school will transfer to the college you may want to attend. Make sure you research this before starting so that you do not take courses that do not transfer.
For California State Department of Education frameworks for each subject, go to the following website. This is much more detail than most of you will need, and much of it pertains specifically to the public school. This is for those who like to do really in depth research......
