Todd Nash is organizing group piano lessons which will meet Monday nights in San Marcos.  The teacher for the group piano classes will be Samantha Ruiz.  Samantha is graduating from California Baptist University in Riverside in December with a major in piano.  Samantha is great with children and has many years of experience teaching the piano.  Classes will be at the beginner level to start with, and more classes will be added over time for intermediate students.

Fees: The group piano will cost $65 per month for 4 lessons of 1 hour each.  If there are more than 4 sessions in a month, the monthly cost will reflect the additional lessons.  Payment options:

1.  Pay the whole session fee at the beginning and save.  If you pay for the entire semester of 5 months, your cost is $300, saving you $5 per month.

2.  Two payments: If you are unable to pay for the entire semester in one payment, you can pay for the first 3 months ($185) before starting, and majke your final payment ($130) by March 1.

3.  School billings: If you are with a school or other organization that will pay for your lessons but will require billing, the cost is $70 per month.

The above fees reflect the basic cost of lessons with a discount built in for those paying cash or check and additional discounts for those paying up front.

Additional Costs: Each student will be required to own or purchase (if not already owned) an electronic keyboard sufficient for the group instruction.  NCMA is negotiating a group purchase with piano manufacturers and will provide students with 2 options.  One will be a full keyboard, and one will be a shorter keyboard, easier for transportation, set up, and storage.  This keyboard will be used for each group lesson, and is the responsibility of the family to purchase and pay for prior to classes beginning.  It will still be required if a family already owns a piano.  Students will keep the keyboard after completing lessons.  The costs and options available will be published this fall when we have the information available.

Each student will also be responsible to pay for music and books as used in the class, which will be expendables that the student will keep.

Location:  Rancho Del Rey Church, San Marcos.  Directions to follow....

Schedule: Lessons will be taught on Monday nights at the following times:

Class 1: 5:00-6:00

Class 2: 6:30-7:30

Class 3: 8:00-9:00

Class 1 will have to fill before we split it into 2 groups and form class 2.  The maximum number of students in each class will be 15.  After 16 enroll we will add class 2 and split the group into 2 classes.  When the 2 classes exceed 15 per class, we will add class 3, and you can move to another class time.  As classes grow, we may also spit the classes based on playing skill.  As this class is just beginning, we ask for your patience in the organizational process.

Class dates will be as follows:

January 7, 14, 21, 28

February 4, 11, 18, 25

March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

April 7, 14, 21, 28

May 5, 12, 19

Students are expected to enroll for the entire semester as listed above.  You will pay for the entire semester, and be responsible for payment for the entire semester, regardless of any missed classes.  Your child needs to commit the time and energy for this 5 month period to make an informed decision on whether or not they enjoy piano or want to continue.  We also need this commitment from you financially in order to organize an opportunity like this.

Recital: There will be a recital in the spring, where students will perform together as a group, and possibly each student may perform a brief selection solo.  The date for this recital will be determined after starting classes in January.  With all students using an electronic keyboard for the lessons, we have the opportunity to do something unusual.  We will look for an orchestrated piece where the students can program their pianos as different instruments, and play a piece that is written for a band or orchestra.  This will be in addition to the standard piano music that they will practice and perform.

Registration forms will be posted here this fall for you to fill out and mail in.
